Hotel Review: W, Barcelona

Whenever, whatever. Today I would like to present you the W, one of my favorite city hotels. It is located right next to the seaside promenade of Spain’s most dynamic and stylish city, a.k.a. Barcelona. The hotel offers unparalleled views over both the Mediterranean Sea and the city. It was designed by world-renowned architect Ricardo Bofill, and from a distance the impressive building looks like a huge sail, reminding me a bit of Dubai’s Burj al Arab.

You will definitely have a „wow“-moment, while checking out the incredible view from your hotel room for the first time. The view is breathtaking, whether you look over the sea or over Barcelona itself. The rooms are furnished in a very modern way and so well equipped that you won’t miss a thing. The location is great, too, as you are right next to the beach. To get to the famous Rambla it takes a 30 minute walk through the beautiful harbor. The hotel’s restaurant leaves nothing to be desired, and especially the quality of the food stood out particularly positive. The great variety ensures everybody gets their money worth: whether you prefer Spanish, Japanese or vegan food. The breakfast is roughly €30,- and therefore it seems a bit overpriced at first. However, regardless of the price you shouldn’t misst this highlight. You’ll be served everything your heart desires, from unusual freshly-squeezed juices like kiwi or watermelon, to smoothies and fresh fruit. I love the W hotel and resorts brand in general, since every hotel is special in its own unique way, however, the W in Barcelona is definitely one of my absolute favorites.

– Best location and breathtaking view

– Great entrance hall and amazing roof-top club

– The food is excellent, from Acai Bowls to breakfast over vegan deals and sushi to typical Spanish dishes.

– The room service is super fast and the prices for a 5 star hotel more than fair

– The prices on the Wet Deck are also more than fair. Quite frankly, I was even surprised, as beach clubs in Mallorca and Ibiza charge way more that.

– Long queues during check-in and check-out, should be solved much better

– The hotel is focused on young people, everywhere is loud music and there is more of a club atmosphere. Personally, it doesn’t bother me, but I guess older people might be annoyed by the concept.

– The beaches shouldn’t be your most anticipated destination, when traveling to Barcelona. The hotel has its own exclusive beach section including beach chairs, but the beaches are rather dirty and rocky.
